The Challenge
Guru’s People Operations team wanted to reduce friction in how employees accessed critical information—from the logistics of the annual company retreat to navigating performance and compensation reviews. HR information was often scattered or buried in Slack, making it hard for employees to know what was most current or where to look first.
“It’s so easy for things to get lost in Slack or email. People didn’t always know where to find the latest update or whether the info they had was still accurate.” — Jess Lantis, VP of People Operations
The Solution
The team leaned into Guru’s core capabilities—strong collection structure, announcements, newsletters, and the new Pages feature—to redesign how they communicate and share HR information:
📖 Collections
They structured HR knowledge into an intuitive Collection structure that made it easy for anyone to navigate to find what they need

📣 Announcements
They used Guru Announcements for high-priority updates—like open enrollment deadlines or new policy rollouts—ensuring every employee saw the message and reducing repetitive follow-ups.

🚀 Newsletters
They created monthly newsletters directly in Guru, linking to relevant Cards, events, and resources to keep everyone in the loop.
📍 Pages
The team built custom Pages for key initiatives, like the 2025 company retreat, featured important performance review cycle information prominently on their department page, and curated a page for an onboarding journey, pulling in Cards, calendars, and key links—all in one easy-to-navigate layout.
“Using Guru means people don’t have to ask around to find what they need—it’s all there, and it’s accurate. I love that we can make our content look great and make it useful.” — Jess Lantis

The Approach
Here’s how the team implemented Guru across their HR workflows:
- Mapped key moments in the employee experience (e.g. onboarding, reviews, events) and matched them to Guru tools that would provide clarity and consistency.
- Organized content in smart collections so anyone could search and self-serve answers at any stage of their journey.
- Created custom Pages for events and high-touch processes like reviews, linking to the Cards people needed most.
- Set up Announcements for time-sensitive communications, ensuring every employee got the same update, at the same time.
- Published regular newsletters in Guru to create a trusted and predictable cadence of updates.
- Iterated based on feedback, continually improving the content and layout based on employee needs.
“Guru helped us create a single place to direct people. Now we get fewer repeat questions and more confident, self-sufficient employees.” — Jess Lantis
The Outcome
Guru’s People Ops team now spends less time chasing down repeated questions and more time focused on employee experience and strategic initiatives. The shift to Guru has meant:
🙌 More self-service—employees know where to look and trust the info they find
😀 Fewer interruptions— had the fewest amount of event-related questions for the 2025 retreat thanks to Pages.
🗣️Clearer comms—newsletters, pages, and announcements regularly surface what’s most important
🧑🏫 Smarter onboarding and events—custom Pages help guide people through complex experiences like retreats and review cycles
“Guru makes it easy to connect people to the info they need. Whether it’s a new hire figuring out day one logistics or someone prepping for a comp review—Guru’s how they get there.” — Jess Lantis
